About LadiesChicks
Ten years ago, I started raising my own flock of chickens in my backyard and I have since developed a deep love and appreciation for these unique and wonderful creatures. I spend countless hours observing and interacting with my chickens, finding them to be the perfect antidote to the fast-paced modern world we live in. Not only do they provide a great source of protein and nutrition, but they also offer stress relief and a good laugh. It has been a long-time goal of mine to share my passion for chickens with others, and now I have found a way to make that dream a reality.
Recently, I introduced my friend Lisa to the joys of raising chickens, and together we created LadiesChicks, a platform to help others discover the same passion we share. Our hope is that you will join us in this journey and find delight in researching different breeds and colors of chickens, as well as sharing your experiences with your friends.
Meet The Ladies
All of the chickens on my small plot of land are hand-raised, either from hatchery-bought chicks or my own barnyard mix. I have a variety of breeds, which gives me a range of egg colors. To ensure the perfect colored egg layer mix, I have an Easter Egger Rooster.
Before sending the hens to your home, they are checked to ensure that they are laying and we know the color of their eggs. I raise both heritage and hybrid breeds, including Black Australorp, Rhode Island Red, Lavender Orpington, Cuckoo Maran, Plymouth Barred Rock, Buff Rock, Cochin, Black Star, Blue Star, Red Star, Golden Laced Wyandottes, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Speckled Sussex, Easter Eggers, and Brown Leghorns. Since I love raising chicks, this list is always changing.
What types of hens will you get?
I only keep hens for egg-laying purposes. I do not raise meat birds, and none of my hens are intended for meat production.
You have the option to choose between high egg production hens or a more diverse mix of breeds. Production hybrid hens are excellent egg-layers and produce a lot of eggs in their early years. I also have Easter Eggers, which are a hybrid breed that are bred for their egg colors. They are called Easter Eggers because the color of the egg they will lay is unknown until they reach maturity. All of my hens will be under two years old.
I rotate hatching my chicks so hens are always laying eggs throughout the year. If you decide to keep hens for a longer period of time, we can rotate them to ensure that there are always hens laying eggs.
You will receive an album of your hens with pictures so that you can identify which hen is laying which egg and get to know each one individually. You will not be able to choose a specific breed of chicken. You may request the color of eggs the hens lay.
